Definitions
Certain definitions apply for the purposes of this website.
- fly-in, fly-out or temporary practise refers to an approach, either through explicit regulation or otherwise, that allows foreign lawyers to enter and provide legal advisory services on foreign and/or international law on a temporary basis without any registration in the jurisdiction under consideration;
- foreign and/or international law means law other than the law of the jurisdiction under consideration;
- foreign lawyer means a lawyer entitled to practise law in a jurisdiction other than the jurisdiction under consideration;
- foreign legal consultant means a foreign lawyer with a limited licence issued by a jurisdiction;
- full licence means a licence entitling a person to practise local law in the jurisdiction under consideration;
- limited licence means a licence given to a foreign lawyer permitting that person to provide legal advisory services on foreign and/or international law in the jurisdiction under consideration;
- local law means the law(s) of the jurisdiction under consideration;
- local lawyer means a lawyer who is licensed to practise local law in the jurisdiction under consideration (including a foreign lawyer who may have obtained a full licence).
